Camp Scholarship Program

New in summer 2021!

The Wisconsin Humane Society Summer Camp Scholarship Program provides young people in need of financial assistance the opportunity to attend summer camp. Full scholarships are available for summer camps at the Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Green Bay, and Racine Campuses for young people completing grades 1-9.

Teachers or mentors can nominate a young person they think will benefit from a summer camp experience or families can apply directly. We encourage young people of all diverse backgrounds to apply. Nomination and application forms can be submitted online or printed and returned by mail or E-mail.  Families must commit to ensuring their camper attends camp every day and be able to provide transportation to and from camp.

Teacher and mentor nomination forms are due April 2, and applications from families are due April 16. There is a separate application and nomination form for each campus. Please be sure to choose the appropriate form for the campus you wish you apply to.

Scholarship FAQ

What is required of participants and families?

Families who accept a scholarship must commit to providing transportation for their camper to and from camp each day and to have their camper attend every day of camp. Families also need to pack a lunch for their camper each day.

How much will the scholarship cover?

Scholarships will cover 100% of the camp tuition and extended care, if needed. Scholarships do not cover transportation costs or lunches.

When are nomination and application forms due?

Teacher and mentor nomination forms are due April 2, and applications from families are due April 16. Applications postmarked by April 16 will be accepted. Applications may be submitted through an online form, e-mailed, or mailed.

What is the age range for camps?

Camps are designed for young people completing grades 1-9 in the 2020-2021 school year. Age ranges vary based on the camp and its activities. To see specific camp sessions offered for each age range, visit our camps page.

When are camps?

Camps are offered in June, July, and August at the Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, and Green Bay Campuses. Visit our camps page for specific sessions and dates for each campus.

How long is each camp session?

Each camp session is one week (Monday through Friday). Camp days run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Extended care is available and provided at no charge to scholarship recipients who need it. See below for more details on extended care.

When is extended care available?

Extended care is available from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for Camp Critter and Camp Unleashed. Extended care is not available for Junior Veterinary Camp.

Pre-registration is required for extended care and need for extended care is included in the scholarship application. Extended care must be arranged prior to camp; drop-in extended care is not available.

How many weeks of camp can I apply for?

To reach as many families as possible, we only award one camp session per child. When completing the application, please rank camp sessions in order of interest. Awards are based on availability and, while we do our best to honor requests, you may not receive your first choice.

Can I nominate or apply for more than one child?

Yes! Please submit one completed application per child.

How and when will I be notified about my scholarship?

Applicants will be notified by Friday, May 14 via e-mail. Please include a valid and clearly printed e-mail address that you check frequently on the application so that you receive scholarship information.

Where do I send my completed form?

You can submit your application online.  If you choose to fill out a hard copy, you can e-mail the completed form to youthprograms@wihumane.org or mail it to:

Youth Programs Camp Scholarship
Wisconsin Humane Society
4500 W Wisconsin Ave.
Milwaukee, WI 53208

My application has been accepted. Now what?

Included in your acceptance notification e-mail, you will receive a link to finalize your camper’s participation in camp. Your child’s summer camp spot will be held for two weeks from the date you receive a scholarship acceptance e-mail. You must confirm your camper’s attendance using the link provided in your acceptance e-mail within two weeks.  If you do not, your camper’s scholarship will be forfeited and will be opened to a student on our waitlist.

Who can I reach out to if I have additional questions?

Please call 414-431-6159 or e-mail youthprograms@wihumane.org if you have additional questions or concerns.
