Record 1,200 cats in care

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, the Wisconsin Humane Society reached a record 1,200 cats and kittens in care, resulting in a critical need for the community’s help. Some campuses are temporarily housing cats in office spaces. WHS is desperately seeking public support with getting cats and kittens out of these unconventional spaces and into homes. WHS will never turn away an animal in need, and we do not euthanize animals for reasons of time or space, which is why we rely so heavily on the kindness and generosity of the communities we serve.

Here are the ways you can help:

  • Foster | By welcoming home a temporary foster pet, you allow us to say yes when animals in our community have no where else to go. Applying online is quick and simple at www.wihumane.org/foster/apply.
  • Adopt | Right now, kittens under the age of 1 have 50% off adoption fees. As always, you can name your own fee for cats over 1 year old, plus you’ll receive a 50% off coupon for our Animal Antics retail store. To find your new best friend, please visit www.wihumane.org/adopt!
  • Donate | Help offset the increased costs of caring for 1,600 animals by making a donation here. We are also accepting supply donations of cat litter, cat food, and kitten milk replacer, which can be dropped off or shipped to any WHS location.

We can’t thank you enough for your continued support. We couldn’t do this work without you.
