Adopt a Working Cat!

Available for hire! Sometimes cats who cannot live as household companions make excellent working cats and thrive in environments like barns, stables, warehouses, breweries, etc. Generally speaking, cats placed through the Wisconsin Humane Society’s working cat program are independent and prefer to limit their interactions with humans. These cats are typically shy or fearful of people and prefer the company of other animals. However, the degree to which they keep their distance varies from cat to cat and may change over time. Working cats often develop strong bonds with other cats, which is why the Wisconsin Humane Society recommends that at least two cats be placed together.

If you are interested in adopting a pair of working cats to become your own personal rodent control service, please complete a Working Cat Interest form, as well as an Adopter Profile. Thank you!

Please Note

Every animal is an individual and WHS works hard to make great matches for our animals and adopters.  Some animals may have placement restrictions or requirements established by WHS based on shelter observations and previous home histories.  When meeting with your adoption counselor, they review each animal’s medical, behavior, and placement needs with you to help you find an animal who is compatible with your home environment and your lifestyle.  There are no time limits at WHS, all animals in adoption have as long as it takes to find a new loving home.  Stop in and speak with our adoption counseling team today – we look forward to meeting with you.
