Veterinary Assistance
Program

The WHS Veterinary
Clinic for low-income households is designed to
provide animals equal access to quality pet care,
regardless of their owner's ability to pay. The
clinic encourages guardians to spay and neuter their
companion animals to decrease overpopulation, a
community crisis that is particularly severe in
low-income areas.Cost is the predominant reason
many animals do not receive proper health care.
In some instances, families in economic distress
face the harsh reality of relinquishing their beloved
animal companions.
Qualified low-income
families whose companion animals need to be spayed
or neutered have exclusive access to the fee-for-service
clinic. Preventative care is also offered at the
time of surgery.
Individuals must be
residents of Milwaukee or Ozaukee County and must
qualify for subsidized services based on their income.
You will be notified of whether or not your animal(s)
qualifies for the program. Qualification for services
takes place annually.
The WHS veterinary
staff maintain the clinic operations. For animals
that are accepted into the program, the following
services are also offered at the time of the spay/
neuter procedure:
- Physical exam
- Initial vaccinations
- Parasite control
To see if you qualify
for the program, please complete the Veterinary
Assistance Program Application. After submitting
the application, you are required to mail verification
of all sources of household income and a $10 deposit
for each animal that qualifies for the program.
The application cannot be processed without the
deposit(s) and the proper documents.
