Gracie

Gracie

My two favorite things about Gracie: Gracie is incredibly affectionate, she loves to sit in our laps, or lay on our chest while we watch tv or read in bed. She is very good natured and allows our German Shepard to “groom” her, and they love to play.

Is Gracie spayed or neutered? yes
Is Gracie up to date on vaccinations? yes
Why the animal is being rehomed: Gracie is the newest member of our family. We have 2 other cats and a German Shepard. Our oldest cat does not like Gracie at all. We have them physically separated just to keep Gracie safe. Thus, she lives in our bedroom with no other spaces to explore and play, and she can’t follow us or hang out with the family like our other pets. I feel that this is not fair to her, because the only time she spends with us is while we are getting ready for bed and while we are sleeping. We make time to play with her as well, but 15-20 minutes is just not enough. We love Gracie, and our entire family cried while we discussed what to do. She has another issue that has been diagnosed (vet and an animal behaviorist) as a specific response to a specific issue. She uses her litter box, does not have any issue with that outside of this; when our more aggressive cat is directly outside our bedroom door, and we are in the room, she will urinate on our bed. She urinates 98% of the time in her litter box, she has never urinated or pooped outside of her box with this exception of the urinating in front of us on our bed. I truly believe that she would make an excellent “only-pet”.
What are your two favorite things about Gracie? Gracie is incredibly affectionate, she loves to sit in our laps, or lay on our chest while we watch tv or read in bed. She is very good natured and allows our German Shepard to “groom” her, and they love to play.
How long have you had Gracie? We have had Gracie for just shy of one year, she is 18 months old.
Where did you get Gracie? We adopted Gracie from MADAC- our local animal control center. She is the second cat that we have adopted there and have had very good experiences both times.
Has Gracie ever bitten someone? No
What, if any, medical or behavioral concerns does Gracie have? Please see above under “reason for rehoming”.
Has Gracie lived with other animals? Yes
If yes to the above, which animals has Gracie lived with? 2 cats, ages 5 and 3 and a dog who will be 2 years old in July
Has Gracie actively fought with other animals in the home? No
If yes to the above, please explain the circumstances: She has NEVER been the aggressor, so it’s more like she has been attacked than actually involved in a fight.
Does/did Gracie hide from other animals in the home? Yes
If yes to the above, please explain the circumstances: Not by choice, we keep her physically separated from our other cats for her own safety. I have a German Shepard that she seeks out and plays with.
How does Gracie interact with animals outside of the home? She likes to look out the window, she is not very interested in outside animals. She is kept indoors all of the time.
Are you requiring that Gracie not go into a family with certain types of pets? Yes
If yes to the above, please explain which types of pets you are restricting: A dog would be fine, but she needs to be an “only cat”
Has Gracie lived with any children under 18? Yes
Gracie has lived with children of these ages: 9 and 11. She has also spent long periods of time with a 2 and 6 year old that we cared for (they lived with us 24/7) for 6 months
Does/did Gracie hide or avoid children in the home? No
Does/did Gracie display any forms of aggression toward children in the home? No
Are you requiring that Gracie not go into a family with children under a certain age? No
Does Gracie have any fears? She is very afraid of other cats. One of our cats has tried to attack her multiple times.
Gracie's overall activity level: Moderately active
What should the next family should know about Gracie: She is very, very loved and loving. It is very hard for us to rehome her, but we feel that having to live in one room, along with the stress brought on by the other cats when they come outside our door- is not fair to her. We feel like her living conditions are not humane- she truly wants to leave our room, and tries to often, but ends up either beat up or scooped up and brought back to our bedroom.
