Butter

Butter is currently available for adoption from the comfort of a foster home in Milwaukee. Here is what his foster parent has to say about him:
This is the story of Butter. Updates will occur each time there is a breakthrough or a new element of Butter's personality is unlocked.

10/22: Butter arrived! He hid under the furniture (to be expected), avoided eye contact (also to be expected, but a bit hurtful), avoided treats (this is just wasteful, Butter), and - AT ALL COSTS - avoided any movement while a human was in the room (he must have thought we are like T-Rexes and can't see him if he doesn't move). However, when terrifying, awful human creatures that tried to befriend him were NOT in the room, then he ate and drank and used the litter box like a gentleman.

10/27: Breakthrough number one! Butter decided it was safe to eat his wet food while I was in the room! Was the wet food placed under the futon where he was hiding and maneuvered to be right next to his face? Yes. Did he have to break his unblinking stare at me to lower his head to the bowl? Also yes. Is that actually progress? YES YES YES! I know it might not seem like a big deal, but Butter feeling comfortable enough to eat with me in the room was very very exciting.

10/31: After a few days of gently petting Butter while he was in his hiding spots (which he appeared to enjoy, or at least tolerate), I decided to pick Butter up. I set him in my lap and at first he was tense, but after about a minute he began to purr! I continued to pet him for a few minutes, taking short breaks where I would move my hand away, and when he decided he had enough, he jumped down and went back under the futon.

11/4: Two breakthroughs in one! Firstly, Butter purred and kneaded against my hand while I was petting him under the futon (I looked like a fool laying on my stomach wedged underneath the furtniture, but hey, the things we do for cats). Secondly, he let me pet his tummy! It was so incredibly soft. Behind his ears is also remarkably soft, and he conveninently loves getting scratches there. Slowly but surely, Butter is learning that maybe we humans aren't all that bad.

11/7: Butter is continuing to purr and knead each time he is pet or picked up. He is still too shy to come out on his own, or ask for attention, but he's making it very clear that he is enjoying the love! I still can't believe how soft he is.
