Volunteer
Everyday,
a volunteer helps to improve the lives of animals
here at the Wisconsin Humane Society. They are making
a positive impact in every facet of the organization
and contribute their time, energy and devotion to
strengthening the human-animal bond and promoting
the humane treatment of animals. The compassion
and kindness provided by volunteers is an inspiration.
Here are just a
few ways in the past year that our volunteers made
a difference…
- WHS Orphan
Bird Care volunteers fed and cared for
1,460 orphaned wild birds.
- WHS Dog
Walkers walked over 8,200 miles with
our pooches.

- WHS Wildlife
Animal Care volunteers treated 4,794
orphaned or injured wild animals.
- WHS Foster
Home volunteers opened their homes and
their hearts to 852 animals that needed time to
heal or space to grow.
- WHS Dog
Shine volunteers gave nearly 3,000 baths
to our furry guests.
- WHS Wildlife
Admission Counselors answered 12,406
phone calls and provided valuable information
on how to help an injured animal or a nuisance
animal situation.
- WHS Wildlife
Rescue volunteers successfully rescued
925 animals. WHS Visiting Companion volunteers
visited over 30 local retirement communities,
hospitals and assisted-living facilities monthly
and shared the joy of animal companionship.
WHS Bow Wow Basic volunteers
helped 3,323 dogs learn great manners to impress
potential adopters.
- WHS Wildlife
Foster Care volunteers nurtured and cared
for 780 wild animals in their homes.
- WHS Cat
Socializers cuddled, groomed and enriched
the lives of 4,561 cats.
- WHS Rabbit
and Small Animal Socializers participated
in 4,503 play sessions with our petite friends.
- WHS Animal
Care Assistants provided nearly 2,000
animals with dazzling clean kennels, litter pans,
and suites.
- WHS Adoption
Avenue, Facility and Grounds Crews spent
1,894 hours keeping our building sparkling inside
and out.
- WHS Vet
Services provided treatments, medications
and general care for 2,990 animals.

- WHS Manners
Assistants trained 686 dogs in our Puppy
and Adult Manners Classes.
- WHS Special
Events crew spent 292 hours spreading
our message at major community events including
Pride Fest and the Wisconsin State Fair, as well
as many small neighborhood animal fairs like Brady
Street Dog Parade.
- WHS P.A.W.S
Greeters and Adoption Teammates welcomed
and answered questions for the more than 15,000
guests that visited our facility.
- WHS Retail
volunteers rang up over 50,000 items in Animal
Antics.
- WHS Web
Photo Assistants snapped over 7,500 pictures
of our adoptable animals.
- WHS Office
Hoppers filed, labeled, sorted and organized
our shelter for 1,430 hours.
- WHS volunteers put
in 300 hours of walking, cleaning, feeding, and
providing basic care for animals affected by Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita.
- WHS Canisters
for Change volunteers routinely toured
the city picking up donations from 34 local businesses
and organizations.
The Wisconsin Humane
Society values each and every volunteer. Whether
they are able to help weekly or on special occasions,
their time, dedication, and commitment to the animals
