Level III- Companion Animal Volunteer Positions

Level III volunteer opportunities are awarded to volunteers who display exceptional animal handling techniques and are recommended by a staff member or trainer for advancement. Level III positions require a commitment of at least two hours per week for a minimum of six months. Training is provided for each of the following opportunities:

Bow Wow Basics
Bow Wow Basics is a reward-based training program that will help every dog to leave the shelter better physically, emotionally, and behaviorally than when they arrived. By implementing the program, it is hoped the dogs will make a better impression on potential adopters and also help them transition into their new homes with a basic training vocabulary. The minimum age for this position is 18 years old or 12 years old with a parent.

Veterinary Services Assistant
This volunteer position would be an ideal starting point for individuals interested in becoming a Veterinarian. Vet Services Assistants have the opportunity to help our Veterinary Technicians with a variety of duties including: providing medication, preparing animals for surgery, cleaning, and other preparations or treatments. The minimum age for this position is 18 years or older.

Purrfect Cat Socializers
Purrfect Cat Socializers provide more advanced training techniques to our cats as well as additional enrichment.

Level IV - Companion Animal Volunteer Positions

Top Dogs and Top Cats
All of the dogs and cats at the Wisconsin Humane Society are evaluated for temperament prior to being placed for adoption. Some animals require extra socialization and behavior training. Volunteers who have been invited to work with these animals will assist in this special training. The Top Dog and Top Cat programs are separate and require training that is specific to each animal. Volunteers for this position must be 18 years or older.
