SIX-YEAR-OLD DECLARES, “PUPPIES NEED HUGS,” LAUNCHING T-SHIRT FUNDRAISER FOR
WISCONSIN HUMANE SOCIETY

MILWAUKEE – Six-year-old Kian Green of Waukesha has started a t-shirt fundraiser for the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS), shortly after his family adopted a dog, Bear, from WHS.

“When we were there, Kian was asking a lot about why the dogs were there,” said his mom, Andrea Green. “At one point in the conversation, we started talking about puppy mills. I think his world stopped for a moment when he found out puppies raised there usually don't get any human contact. All he could say was, "but mom, puppies need hugs."

Kian explains he wants his new company to "teach other kids and big people how to treat animals better." His family decided to support his enterprise by designing Puppies Need Hugs t-shirts, in which $10 for every adult shirt and $8 for youth shirts go to WHS.

"I have a feeling this is just the beginning," says Andrea, who is trying to keep up with Kian's continuing plans to expand Puppies Need Hugs.

Angela Speed is the director of development and community relations at WHS, and is often astounded by the generosity of children in the community. “Kids surprise us every week with their generosity and willingness to help animals. We are so grateful to them, and to their parents, for encouraging a sense of philanthropy and compassion for others.”
