Petco Foundation Invests in Wisconsin Humane Society’s Lifesaving Work

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) announced that it has received a $40,000 grant from the Petco Foundation.  The grant will help save 300 animals by providing specialty medical care, medicine, supplies, equipment and expert veterinary staff to support animals with medical needs beyond the scope of routine care. Many of these animals come from hoarding situations or law enforcement seizures.

“Every animal comes to us with a story,” said Angela Speed, vice president of communications at WHS. “But the ones who need the most help are the animals in need of special support after a traumatic situation like hoarding, law enforcement seizures, accidents or other emergencies. This grant from the Petco Foundation helps make that support possible.”

In 2016, 2,647 dogs and cats were adopted from WHS as “special” needs because of medical or behavioral issues; there were 10,100 adoptions overall at WHS’s shelters in Milwaukee, Racine and Saukville.
