Put the Zip Back in Zippy’s Step

MILWAUKEE – Zippy is trying really hard to live up to his name, but his broken leg isn’t much help. This adorable Chihuahua mix came to the Wisconsin Humane Society in May with a severely fractured front leg. He was found as a stray, so we don’t know how the break happened, but he fortunately ended up at the right place for help.

After a thorough examination and a round of x-rays, WHS veterinarians determined that Zippy would need immediate specialized surgery. A steel plate was inserted into his leg, which will help speed up the healing process. The plate ensures a stronger bond between the two broken pieces of bone. His leg was then wrapped in a festive blue cast.

Zippy is a cheerful and gregarious dog and despite the painful ordeal he’s been through, he is thrilled to visit with staff and volunteers. After surgery, he wanted to run in circles and chase tennis balls, but his activity must be restricted until his bones heal. He’s a delightful little dog and it's easy to fall for him. Zippy is eager to please and works really hard for belly rubs.

Zippy will soon be available for adoption. To learn more about him, contact the Wisconsin Humane Society at (414) ANIMALS or visit www.wihumane.org.

Interview/Photo Opportunity: A WHS representative will be available to speak with the media on Tuesday, June 5; Zippy the dog will be available for filming, as well. Please call Angela Speed at 431-6104 to schedule an appointment in the early afternoon.
