Don’t Rustle the Feathers of Goose Nest

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Humane Society is sending out a request to gallery-goers to avoid rustling the feathers of two very concerned parents during Gallery Night in the Third Ward.

There is a pair of Canada geese nesting along the Riverwalk in the Third Ward. The male gander has reportedly flown out of the river to defend his mate and the nest from people using the Riverwalk. Scott Diehl, Wildlife Manager at the Wisconsin Humane Society, went down to look at the situation earlier today.

The city has put some snow fence up, as recommended, to keep people away from the nest. Diehl strongly recommends that people not linger in that area, to avoid causing the gander to become concerned for the safety of his nest and mate. Diehl also recommend the placement of a sign to alert walkers to the nestling family.

Interview/Photo Opportunity: Scott Diehl is available today at 3:00pm to meet reporters at the site. To confirm an interview, please call Angela Speed at 414-431-6104 for the address and directions.
