Keep Uninvited
Guests Out of Your Home!
MILWAUKEE – Most people don't give their
chimney a second thought. However, many wild critters
would like to make your chimney
their home, because the inside of a chimney is warm,
dark and quiet, much like the interior of a hollow
tree and the perfect place to sleep or even raise
a family! The Wisconsin Humane Society's Wildlife
Rehabilitation Center answers hundreds of calls
each year from people who have wildlife living or
trapped in their chimney.
If you would like to
keep wildlife out of your chimney, the WHS Wildlife
Rehabilitation Center has the perfect solution for
you. Now is a great time of year to cap your chimney.
Chimney capping will prevent raccoons from denning
in your chimney and prevent smaller animals like
birds or squirrels from possibly getting trapped
inside your chimney, which will cause their death.
Wally's Workbench at
the Wisconsin Humane Society sells a stainless steel,
heavy-duty cap, ready to install with just a screwdriver
on your home. The proceeds from Wally's Workbench
sales benefit the wild animals we care for at the
shelter.
For more information
about chimney caps, contact the Wisconsin Humane
Society's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at (414)
431-6204 . Additional information about
the Center can be obtained by visiting www.wihumane.org
and clicking on the “Wildlife” tab.
