Experience
the “Magic” Between Children and Dogs
MILWAUKEE
– What happens when you bring children
and dogs together? At the Wisconsin Humane Society,
nothing less than magic happens. The bond between
children and dogs becomes so strong that the youth
can effectively teach the canines how to sit, go
down and walk nicely on a leash through WHS' People
and Animals Learning (PAL) Program. Twelve youth
at-risk will demonstrate their bond with their new
friends at the PAL graduation on Friday, July 7
at noon.
WHAT:
PAL Graduation
WHEN:
Friday, July 7, 2006
Noon to 1 p.m.
WHERE:
Wisconsin Humane Society
4500 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Milwaukee, WI 53208
WHY:
Twelve at-risk youth, ages 10 to 13, will graduate
from the violence prevention PAL Program and show
off their newly learned dog training skills including
teaching dogs how to sit, go down and heel to parents
and friends.
Through PAL,
children gain an increased sense of self worth,
develop compassion and learn the importance of success
through positive means.
PAL is a nationally recognized violence prevention
program developed by the Wisconsin Humane Society
in 1993. At-risk Milwaukee-area youth are nominated
by their teachers and social workers to participate
in PAL.
