Evacuees
Showered with Love and Tuna Treats
WHS's
Emergency Shelter at State Fair Park Includes Lots
of Cuddling
MILWAUKEE
– Residents of the Wisconsin Humane Society's
Emergency Animal Shelter at State Fair Park have
started to settle into their routine. When the 22
dogs and three cats arrived last Thursday, September
8 with approximately 215 human evacuees, life was
rather chaotic. But, after a week with consistent
care and expert veterinary medical treatment, furry
residents are beginning to feel at home.
Sam and Buff
have their regular nap time; Ted, Maggie and Precious
like to feast on doggie bacon treats and Sasha prefers
rawhides. Go Go, the black and white domestic short
hair prefers tuna snaps and Jerry, the kitten with
the cute paws is happy with her prescription diet
and lots of snuggling.
The animals are
providing a sense of stability for many of the guests
at the State Fair Park . While their guardians are
planning the next phase of their lives, their animals
are content to wait and wiggle with happiness when
it's time to walk or just to get a treat and a little
pat on the head.
Although the
animals are becoming accustomed to the routine,
resources are still needed to maintain their care.
Anyone who would like to make a monetary donation
to WHS to help care for the animals can contribute
online at www.wihumane.org. Monetary
donations can also be dropped off or mailed to the
Wisconsin Humane Society, 4500 W. Wisconsin Avenue
, Milwaukee , WI 53208 . Please indicate the donation
is for animal victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Victoria Wellens,
Executive Director at the Wisconsin Humane Society,
is available for media interviews. To schedule
a time to meet and talk with Victoria at State Fair
Park , please call Michelle Pintar at (414) 431-6104.
