MEDIA ADVISORY/PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

Dog Training Demo for Toddlers

MILWAUKEE ? Approximately 50 3- to 5-year-olds will get an up-close and personal look at older children training dogs. Children and dogs from the Wisconsin Humane Society's People and Animals Learning (PAL) Program will demonstrate their new skills to the toddlers from a local daycare center on Thursday, August 10 at 10:30 a.m.

WHAT:
Twelve PAL participants ages 10 to 13 to demonstrate dog training skills to 3- to 5-year-olds

WHEN:
Thursday, August 10, 2006
10:30 a.m.

WHERE:
Wisconsin Humane Society
4500 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Milwaukee, WI 53208

BACKGROUND:
Over the three-week course of the PAL Program, participants trained the dogs to perform a number of obedience cues including sit, down and heel. Through participation in PAL, youth at-risk learn the importance of kindness and compassion toward all living things.

The PAL Program is a nationally recognized violence prevention program developed 13 years ago by the Wisconsin Humane Society in response to the growing number of violent acts being committed toward people and animals in our community.
