Great Horned Owl Returns to the Skies
Franklin Fire Department & Wisconsin Humane Society teamed up to rescue owl
MILWAUKEE - A majestic Great Horned Owl will be returning to the skies tonight after being rescued last week by the Franklin Fire Department and a volunteer from the Wisconsin Humane Society’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Frank had been caught in string and was trapped high in a tree and a Good Samaritan called for help. The fire department used their bucket lift to hoist a WHS volunteer, Patti Vollmer, to Frank’s rescue.
We don’t know how long Frank was tangled in the string, but he was found thin and weak after not being able to access food and water. The WHS team worked quickly to rehabilitate the Great Horned Owl. After receiving lifesaving care, staff performed a full exam. Luckily, Frank had not suffered from any tissue damage or broken bones. Today, thanks to the efforts of the Franklin Fire Department and WHS, Frank is fully recuperated and ready to be released back into the wild!
