Wisconsin Humane
Society to Rescue 22 Cats
from Animal Hoarding Situation
MILWAUKEE
?The Wisconsin Humane Society, an animal welfare
organization whose mission is to build a community
where people value animals and treat them with respect
and kindness, is scheduled to rescue 22 cats from
an animal hoarding situation this afternoon. The
cats will arrive at WHS, where vets will immediately
provide medical attention to determine the severity
of any health concerns.
The cats are living
in squalid conditions in a house on Milwaukee's
south side. Characteristic of animal hoarders, the
person in whose home the cats were being held, is
well meaning and started out with a few cats and
continued to acquire them beyond her capacity to
provide care.
Unlike many hoarders,
this individual actually came forward before authorities
intervened. She contacted the Wisconsin Humane Society
to help her surrender the cats.
According to Tufts
University, animal hoarding is a disorder that entails
a guardian who owns numerous companion animals yet
doesn't recognize the negative impact on himself/herself
or the animals. Animal hoarders are also unable
to provide companion animals with even minimal levels
of nutrition, sanitation, shelter and veterinary
care.
